Our story began in 1964, when two brothers joined forces in a small joinery workshop in northern Portugal. With determination and craftsmanship, they set out to design, produce, and market their own furniture, serving households and small retailers.
In those early days, their only means of transport was an old Volkswagen Kombi, which they used to visit clients and deliver their furniture. Yet, despite humble beginnings, their passion and perseverance steadily opened new doors and expanded their reach.
These formative years were crucial in establishing the company and laying a strong foundation for future growth.
Over time, one of the brothers, Carlos Alfredo, assumed the control of that modest workshop that evolved into the company Móveis Carlos Alfredo, a manufacturer and exporter of solid wood furniture, proudly operating for more than six decades.
Amid the political and economic transformations in Portugal and the country's growing openness to the world, Carlos Alfredo recognized the urgent need for modernization. He embarked on a transformative journey, investing in cutting-edge technology, innovation, and workforce training to position the company for future growth.
This forward-thinking approach led to a period of remarkable expansion. With a modernized production facility, Móveis Carlos Alfredo adopted a more aggressive business strategy, introducing contemporary product lines, professional catalogues, and expanding its export operations, particularly to the Spanish and French markets.
During this pivotal time, two more members of the family joined the business. First Salvador Gonzaga, followed by Carlos Silva, who both inherited their father's passion and gradually assumed leadership roles in the Commercial and Production departments.
By the time the global financial crisis struck in 2008, Carlos Alfredo’s sons, Salvador Gonzaga and Carlos Silva, were already actively involved in the company. The crisis dealt a severe blow to the business, particularly due to the cancellation of most international orders.
In 2012, after four years of hard work, the second-generation owners founded Wewood – Portuguese Joinery, a brand born from a desire to create a design house proud of its heritage and grounded in high-quality materials, durable construction, and timeless design.
Wewood established itself as a high-end brand, deeply rooted in Portugal’s strong traditions of craftsmanship and furniture making. The company continues to focus on improving its work, preserving natural resources, supporting the local region, and ensuring the transmission of exceptional artisanal skills to future generations.
The quality and design of Wewood products quickly attracted attention from the hospitality sector, initially leading to requests for individual pieces for hotel spaces. This demand soon evolved into the development of comprehensive hotel concepts and fully integrated, ready-to-operate interior solutions.
Recognizing this opportunity, the owners launched a second brand in 2019: Wecontract. In less than five years, Wecontract has become associated with some of the world’s most luxurious hotels and has expanded its presence in the Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E) segment. The brand has also diversified into projects for restail stores, bars, and restaurants.
Backed by over 60 years of industry experience, the company’s primary production facility spans 16,500 square meters and has the capacity to produce more than 200 rooms per month, combining technical expertise with a deep passion for craftsmanship.
Wecontract is increasingly recognized for its ability to blend design excellence with commercial and operational expertise. Its portfolio includes collaborations with international designers and major hotel chains, consistently delivering on brand standards while introducing distinctive, forward-thinking design concepts.
Wecontract offers turnkey interior solutions, supported by an in-house design studio capable of overseeing projects from concept to installation. Whether developing, consulting, or managing the entire process, Wecontract ensures seamless execution at every stage.
From design and production to supply and installation, Wecontract delivers on time, within budget, and on a global scale.
In addition to large-scale hospitality projects, Wecontract brings its expertise and well-established supply chain to independent clients, including boutique hoteliers, private homeowners, commercial clients, and property developers. The company is committed to delivering exceptional design outcomes and high-performance solutions tailored to each client’s needs.
